Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga returning to Fluminense in permanent transfer

Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga is returning to Brazil to sign for former club Fluminense on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old has been on loan at Scottish Championship side Livingston so far this season but leaves without making a single league appearance.

Pitaluga jumped at the opportunity to rejoin Fluminense in a bid to kick-start his career after a frustrating period. With talks at an advanced stage, the move is expected to be finalised over the weekend. It’s set to be a free transfer with Liverpool also negotiating a sell-on clause.

He cost Liverpool an initial fee of £1million from Fluminense in October 2020 after being part of the Brazil squad which won the Under-17 World Cup.

Pitaluga was an unused substitute on seven occasions during Jurgen Klopp’s reign but didn’t make a senior debut for the club.

Before joining Livingston, he had other loan spells at Macclesfield and League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic.
