Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has said he is not surprised by his side losing successive Premier League matches against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
United lost 2-0 in north London on Wednesday and suffered a 2-3 defeat at home to Forest three days later; results which see them slip to 13th in the Premier League standings.
39-year-old Amorim, who began work at United last month after his appointment from Sporting CP, reiterated that they were on a “long journey” and pledged to improve the team.
“No its not a surprise,” Amorim told Sky Sports after Saturday’s match after being asked about the results. “We came in during the middle of a lot of games. We already knew this.
“Even if you have a little experience in football you understand these moments. It is so disappointing and really hard to experience this disappointment after so many times happening before.
“We will continue doing the same things and we are going to improve this team.”

The Briefing: Manchester United 2 Nottingham Forest 3 – Set-piece pain, haphazard defending and a humbling loss
United conceded to Nikola Milenkovic’s header from a corner in the second minute before Rasmus Hojlund’s equaliser, but goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood — following individual errors from Andre Onana and Lisandro Martinez — early in the second half put Forest into a commanding position, before Bruno Fernandes scored a consolation goal.
“We started the second half really badly,” Amorim said. “It was really hard to pass some calm to the players. We try it with a lot of heart, but not in the best way.
“After half time, suffering two goals like that in this context is really not good. We scored one and tried with two strikers in the box (bringing on Joshua Zirkzee to partner Hojlund) but we couldn’t score.
United return to action on December 12 when they face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League and then visit Manchester City in the Premier League three days later.
