Helix Midnight Luxe Review (2024): Tried and Tested

I was looking for a mattress that felt soft and malleable but still provided enough lower back support so that my aging muscles would get some love. And while I wanted my mattress to hold me closely, I didn’t need the shame of my permanent imprint reminding me of how much time I actually spend in bed. The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress does all of the above.

Firmness

On a firmness scale of one to 10, with 10 being as firm as a hardwood floor, the medium-firm Helix Midnight Luxe sits at a six for me. As it turns out, most sleepers tend to prefer this level of firmness in a mattress. (It helps support neutral spine alignment when sleeping on your back or side.)

Support

The Helix Midnight Luxe allows me to dance between sleeping on a mattress that’s actually supportive and one that mimics the feeling of a warm hug, all thanks to the zoning technology that offers a softer feel under your shoulders and a firmer one under your hips.

Responsiveness

The innerspring base gives the mattress a slight bounce and responsive touch, which prevented me from feeling stuck in the top comfort layers.

Cooling

I sleep next to a six-foot-nine athlete who sprawls across the bed like he’s the only one there, and I remained perfectly cool thanks to the mattress’s breathable Tencel cover.

Motion Control

I never felt my partner moving around in the middle of the night or waking up at the crack of dawn—a big win in my book.

Edge Support

I slept comfortably both on the edge and toward the middle of the mattress, and I didn’t notice any challenge getting on or off the bed. The support was ideal for me.

Helix Shipping, Trial Period, and Warranty

Shipping

The delivery of my Helix Midnight Luxe was as simple as it gets. The mattress-in-a-box was delivered right to my front door. With the help of a friend—the mattress is quite dense and heavy—I was able to roll it out of the box and watch it expand pretty much instantly.

Trial Period

I appreciate Helix’s 100-night sleep trial (even though I didn’t need anywhere near that many nights to decide how I felt sleeping on it). With that said, I know some brands offer even longer trial periods that help customers test out a mattress in multiple seasons, which I imagine can be really helpful for hot sleepers in particular.

Warranty

After learning that a mattress tends to last 10 to 12 years, I was pleased that Helix offers a 15-year warranty on this mattress. That’s basically as good as a lifetime warranty to me.

Other Helix Mattresses Worth Considering

Similar to the Helix Midnight Luxe without its fancier upgrades, the more affordable Helix Midnight features three comforting foam layers on top of a base of individually wrapped coils, giving the bed a medium, responsive feel that works well for all sleeping positions. While it provides very little body contouring, it does a good job or relieving pressure at the joints.

As I mentioned earlier, stomach sleepers are likely to find the Helix Dawn more comfortable than the Helix Midnight Luxe due to its firmer feel. Another hybrid mattress, it does have some bounce, making it easier to change positions and prevent you from feeling stuck in the bed. And while it isn’t inherently cooling, the coils and latex in its construction make for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Another great Helix mattress for couples, the Helix Dusk Luxe offers exceptional edge support and encourages optimal spinal alignment with its zoned, reinforced coils. The pillow top also adds softness and cushioning that’s key for pressure relief in all the right places and limits motion transfer for people who share a bed.

More Helix Products We Love

While Helix is known for its mattress selection, the brand makes a variety of high-quality bedding as well. Here are a few of my favorites.

  • Helix Dream Pillow Set: Feature a copper-infused memory foam core and cool-to-the-touch cover, these pillows do the trick for hot sleepers.
  • Helix Tencel Sheet Set: Another bedding win for people who tend to sleep hot, Helix’s sateen weave tencel sheets are ultra soft and moisture wicking.
  • Helix Plush Mattress Topper: If you want more cushioning than a Helix mattress’s pillow top provides, this hypoallergenic and breathable topper is an easy addition.
