Former Arsenal forward Fabian Caballero has died at the age of 46, the club have confirmed.
Caballero joined the north London outfit on a season-long loan from Paraguayan side Serro Portino in October 1998.
He went on to make three three first-team appearances under then-manager Arsene Wenger during the 1998-99 campaign, including a 20-minute cameo in Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round win at Preston North End.
His one and only Premier League game for the club came as a substitute in their 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough.
“The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Fabian’s family and friends at this tragic time,” an Arsenal statement said.
Caballero went to make 142 appearances for Dundee, scoring 27 goals across a five-year spell with the Scottish Premiership side. He won the club’s player of the season award for 2003-04.
A club statement said: “All at Dundee Football Club are extremely shocked and saddened this morning to learn of the passing of former Dundee player Fabian Caballero.
“The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Fabián’s family at this very sad time.”
Caballero went on to represent clubs in South Korea, Cyprus, Chile, Greece, Guatemala and Argentina before retiring from playing in 2014.
