Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara on track for Aston Villa return after international break

Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are in line to return to first-team action after the October international break.

Club captain Mings sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee in August 2023, while Kamara suffered a similar injury in the same knee in February.

Villa manager Unai Emery had said last month that the pair were close to participating in first-team training following their lay-offs and gave another positive update on Friday.

“They are training very well,” Emery said ahead of Villa’s trip to Ipswich Town. “They started to be with us 100 per cent during training sessions last week.

“And the plan with them is to try and start playing with our Under-21s next week, 45 minutes. After the break they will be available should everything go well to be with us.”

After Sunday’s trip to Ipswich, Villa welcome Bayern Munich to the West Midlands for their second Champions League game on Wednesday before hosting Manchester United ahead of the October international break, which takes place between October 7 and 15.

Following the break, Emery’s side play Fulham, Bologna and Bournemouth.
