5 new Tata SUVs launching soon: From Nexon facelift to Punch EV

The upcoming months of 2023 will be jam-packed with SUV launches from the country’s third-largest carmaker by volume, Tata Motors. The company will be launching new SUVs in all segments of the SUV market. A few of these new SUVs will be electric iterations of their ICE counterparts, meanwhile, the other few will be the long-awaited facelift models of the outgoing model. So, without any further ado, here are the 5 SUVs which will be launching soon by Tata Motors.

Nexon facelift

The first SUV on this list is the brand-new iteration of the highly popular sub-compact SUV, Nexon. Tata Motors has already unveiled this model and will be launching it on the 14th of September. The model has been fully redesigned from inside and outside and looks completely different from the outgoing model. It boasts a very modern, aggressive yet minimalistic design and comes equipped with a ton of new features.

The new Nexon facelift will be offered with two different powerplant options. A 1.2-liter petrol turbocharged engine is the first, and the maximum output from this engine is 118 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. A 1.5-liter diesel engine is the alternate choice. This engine generates 260 Nm of torque and 113 horsepower. Both engines will be available with manual and automatic manual gearboxes (AMT), depending on the engine. On the other hand, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic will be available with the turbo-petrol model. Additionally, paddle shifters will be included with the dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Nexon EV facelift

The second SUV that will be launched by Tata Motors is the 2023 Nexon EV facelift. This new model will be launched on the 7th of September. The model will look exactly like the new Nexon facelift but will have three major differences. The first will be its lower front grille. The second will be its connected LED DRL on the front, and the last will be its new Nexon EV badging at the rear. The rest of the car will look exactly like the ICE Nexon facelift.

Most likely, the upcoming Nexon EV will come equipped with the same electric powertrain that the company currently offers in the outgoing Nexon EV. Presently, customers have a choice between the 30.2 kWh battery with the Nexon EV Prime variant and a 40.5 kWh battery. In terms of the range, the Nexon EV Prime variant is around 312 km, while for the Nexon EV Max, it is around 453 km. The Nexon EV comes powered by the Tata Ziptron technology. This popular EV SUV gets an electric motor that generates a maximum of 143 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque.

Punch EV

After the launch of the Nexon EV facelift, the company will be launching the all-new Punch EV. The Punch EV is one of the most highly anticipated models from Tata as the ICE Tata Punch is the top seller in its segment. According to reports, the company will most likely launch the Tata Punch EV by late October this year. A test mule of this forthcoming EV SUV was recently spotted charging at an EV charging station.

In terms of the drivetrain side of things, the exact details of this upcoming EV are unknown, but most likely, the Punch EV is slated to be powered by the same Ziptron technology that also powers the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and Nexon EV. Currently, there are multiple battery packs on offer that deliver different ranges. For the recently launched Tiago EV, the company offers the hatchback with a 24 kWh battery pack that delivers an MIDC-certified range of 315 km. And there is also a smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack available, which offers an MIDC-certified range of 250 km. Most likely, these numbers will also be retained by the Tata Punch EV.

Harrier facelift

Following these EV SUVs, Tata Motors will be launching the Harrier facelift in the country. Most likely, according to multiple reports, this new SUV will be making its debut later this year or early next year. This new model will also get an updated front fascia and rear end. Additionally, its interior will also most likely be revamped. The model will come equipped with a 7-inch full-TFT instrument console, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, powered driver’s seat with memory settings, and ADAS.

It has also been reported that the company will most likely retain the existing 2.0-litre diesel engine for the Harrier facelift. This engine will come mated with the same current transmission options of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Presently, this engine generates 170 PS of peak power and 350 Nm of maximum torque. However, in addition to this engine, there are reports that state the engine will undergo tuning to deliver more enhanced performance figures in the facelifted model. Additionally, the updated Harrier is anticipated to introduce an entirely new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which was showcased by Tata Motors at the Auto Expo 2023.

Safari facelift

Last but not least, the company will also be launching the facelifted iteration of its flagship SUV, the Safari, alongside the Harrier facelift. The Safari facelift will also be launched around the end of this year or early next year. The Safari facelift will also get a completely revamped front fascia and, just like the Harrier, a brand new interior. This interior will feature a unique four-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel and a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. Additionally, it will have touch-based HVAC controls like on the new Nexon facelift.

As for the powertrain side of things, most likely, the company will retain the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder 170 PS diesel engine with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions for the all-new Safari. Additionally, there is a strong possibility that the new Tata Safari will also feature the newly-developed 1.5-liter four-cylinder 170 PS turbocharged petrol engine. It is expected that the new Tata Safari will come equipped with both a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
